What the Center can help with

SoHi Center recognizes that every immigrant's journey is unique. The team takes time to understand individual needs and challenges, then provides practical support for the complexities of settling in a new country.

The service is built to help newcomers feel welcomed, informed, and empowered while they build a life in Philadelphia.

Personalized immigrant support

The team provides one-on-one guidance for residents navigating legal-status questions, benefit enrollment, and the unfamiliar systems that often come with a move to a new country.

Essential services for success

Services include naturalization assistance, benefit enrollment, legal-rights information, housing-option guidance, and educational-opportunity referrals.

The goal is to make sure residents have the tools and information they need to thrive in their new environment.

  • Naturalization assistance
  • Benefit enrollment support
  • Information on legal rights
  • Housing and education referrals
  • Document and appointment preparation

Fostering community engagement

Connection matters during transition. The Center encourages social engagement and networking opportunities that help new residents build meaningful relationships.

Community events, workshops, and support groups celebrate diversity, promote inclusivity, and help neighbors feel at home.

Immigration-services impact

Program records report more than 2,000 lawful permanent residency petitions, 1,000 naturalization petitions, and 1,000 immigration fee waiver requests completed.

Because immigration services have been provided free of charge, the site estimates more than $5,000,000 saved for immigration clients in legal and application fees.

Staff attorney support

Jae Hyun Joo, a Penn State Law School Juris Doctor graduate from 2024, is listed as a staff attorney for the Center.

During law school, he trained through three in-house clinics: the Children's Advocacy Clinic, the Medical-Legal Partnership Clinic, and the Income Tax Assistance Clinic. His training included tax law, health law, immigration law, and family law.

Stories from neighbors

Thanks to the Center, I was able to find affordable housing and receive essential support as a new immigrant. The team was incredibly helpful and made me feel welcomed in my new home.

Questions people ask before they visit.

Can SoHi Center help me understand a USCIS notice or immigration letter?

Yes. Visitors should bring the notice, photo ID, previous applications, and any deadline information. The team can help explain what the letter is asking for and what the next practical step should be.

Do I need to know the exact immigration form before contacting the Center?

No. The first step can be a short message or phone call. Staff can help identify whether the request relates to naturalization, benefits, document preparation, referrals, or another immigration-support need.

Does immigration support cost anything?

Core immigration-support services are offered at no cost. Some outside applications or government filings may have their own fees, but the Center's role is to reduce confusion and help residents find the right next step.
